A brand-new chapter in South Africa’s motoring story is about to unfold. Westvaal Menlyn will soon be home to Leap motor, a cutting-edge Chinese Range Extender electric vehicle (REEV) brand that’s making waves globally.
Backed by a powerful alliance with automotive giant Stellantis (parent company to Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, Opel, and Peugeot), Leap motor is set to officially launch in October 2025 with its first model: the Leap Motor C10.
The Stellantis–Leap motor Partnership
In October 2023, Stellantis acquired a 21% stake in Zhejiang Leap motor Technology Co., Ltd, a forward-thinking EV manufacturer founded in 2015. This move gave birth to Leap motor International, a joint venture based in Amsterdam that oversees the brand’s export, sales, and production outside China. Stellantis holds a controlling 51% stake—ensuring Leap motor vehicles integrate seamlessly into its global network.
That means South Africa’s Leap motor journey won’t stand alone—it will be supported by Stellantis South Africa’s existing sales and service infrastructure, ensuring peace of mind for customers from day one.
The First Arrival: Leap motor C10
The star of the local debut is the C10 SUV, Leap motor’s first global product. Engineered to meet worldwide safety and design standards, the C10 combines sleek styling, advanced technology, and eco-friendly performance.
The C10 represents Leap motor’s ambition to create electric mobility that’s both practical and aspirational. South Africa’s launch strategy is focused on the more versatile and family-friendly C10.
For now, all eyes are on October 2025, when Leap motor officially switches on at Westvaal Menlyn, offering South Africans a fresh, exciting, and sustainable way to drive.
