Suzuki South Africa Soars with Over 50,000 Models Sold

Suzuki Auto South Africa speeds past the 50,000 mark for the first time, selling 51,969 new models between April 2023 and March 2024. Henno Havenga, General Manager of Sales and Marketing, mentions that they missed the milestone by less than 500 sales last year and is now overjoyed with their achievement.

The 2023 additions of the Grand Vitara and the Eeco panel van (April), the Fronx and the XL6 (August) and the 5-door Jimny (November) along with new sales targets set the stage for another busy year.

The larger Jimny visited the Suzuki South Africa Jimny Gathering where the Guinness World Record for the most vehicles to switch on their lights at the same time was broken with 787 Jimnys attending.

Other beaten monthly records included selling the 200,000th South African Suzuki in July 2023, surpassing 5,000 models being sold per month with 5,249 sales in January and the Suzuki dealer network selling 4,488 vehicles in February.

Suzuki is one of the few vehicle brands that grew their sales and market share in a declining market – the new vehicle market dropped by 11.3% this March compared to March last year.

Havenga says “People are feeling the pinch of high interest rates and the underlying increase in the cost of living.” He goes on to say that Suzuki’s affordable offerings prove popular in South Africa and contribute to Suzuki’s success.

30 Million Units Manufactured in India

Suzuki South Africa and India exchanged congratulations with Maruti Suzuki reaching a new production record of 30 million units in 40 years and 4 months on March 2024, surpassing Japan.
Being the top seller in India reflects Suzuki’s significance, manufacturing models such as the Fronx, XL6, and Baleno which are exported globally – including to South Africa.
“We are happy that we could contribute to their production growth with our growing sales in South Africa” says Havenga.
