The new Renault Duster is now available at Westvaal Mashishing, Licthenburg, Mahikeng. Renault opting for two new petrol engines for the third-gen Duster, including one that features mild-hybrid technology.
The two available variants in South Africa are powered by a turbocharged 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine (the “TCe 150”). This engine produces 113 kW (at 4,800 to 5,000 rpm) and 250 Nm (at 1,700 rpm), sending power to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The official fuel consumption figure for this powertrain is 6.5 L/100 km.
The 4WD version of the Duster, which offers 217 mm of ground clearance (compared to the 4×2's 209 mm), is equipped with a turbocharged 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine (the “TCe 130 MHEV”) that includes a mild-hybrid system aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency during energy-intensive driving phases. This lightly electrified engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox and delivers 96 kW (from 4,500 to 5,500 rpm) and 230 Nm (at 2,000 rpm). The 48-volt powertrain, which draws from a 0.8 kWh battery and includes an integrated starter generator, boasts a combined fuel economy of 5.7 L/100 km.
