Overview.

Powertrain and performance The SHARK 6 uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 135 kW and 260 Nm, combined with a front electric motor (170 kW/310 Nm) and a rear electric motor (150 kW/340 Nm). Total system output is 321 kW and 650 Nm. Power goes to all four wheels as standard. BYD claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.7 seconds. The 29.58 kWh Blade Battery provides 85 km of pure electric range. With the battery between 25 and 100 percent charged, BYD claims combined fuel consumption of 2.0L/100km and a total range of 650 km.

Exterior.

Off-road capability The SHARK 6 has an approach angle of 31 degrees, a break-over angle of 17 degrees, and a departure angle of 19.3 degrees. Ground clearance is 230 mm and wading depth is 700 mm. For a hybrid vehicle, those are competitive off-road numbers. The AWD system is always engaged, and the DMO platform is designed to manage torque distribution between the front and rear motors for traction on loose and uneven surfaces.

Payload and towing The SHARK 6 is rated to tow 2,500 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked. The load bin holds 1,200 litres. South Africa currently receives the Premium trim only, which includes synthetic leather upholstery, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen, a 12-speaker Dynaudio audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a heads-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, and seven airbags. The driver assistance package covers adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.
